I Dressed Like A Hypebeast for A Week

In the mid-2000s the rise of sneaker obsessions and streetwear clothing birthed the hypebeast. With the help of social media and blogs, like the infamous Hypebeast site created by Kevin Ma, hypebeast culture has fully infiltrated itself into fashion and isn’t going away anytime soon.

In my opinion, you’re more likely to see an average woman wearing a sneaker than an ankle boot. This is the result of the birth of the hypbeast. I am the total opposite of a hypebeast, but like everyone else, I’m intrigued by the culture.

I decided to dress like a hypebeast for a week. Five days to be exact. I was thankfully sponsored by my friend Rachel and my brother’s wardrobe. During this time I discovered that Rachel is indeed a hypebeast. Anyone who has a HUF hat is a hype AF. This was definitely a challenge for me because I do not dress anywhere near like a hypebeast, I’m used to heels, tight clothes and heels. Every day was different but here’s how it went.

Hat-HUF
Bomber Jacket- Bape
Turtleneck- Free People
Sports Bra-Nike
Pants- Thrifted
Shoes- Superga

For this look, I tried to look hypebeast but be more genuine in my personal style. I am a maximalist who lives for eclectic looks. This first day was weird. I was short, due to the sneakers. Which is a foreign concept for me so it took a lot of adjusting.

Hat- MCM
Bomber Jacket- Billionaire Boys Club
Top- Polo Ralph Lauren
Pants- Thrifted
Shoes- Superga

I had a hard time putting together this look because it felt very masculine. I am a very feminine dresser, I like skirts, tight clothing and showing what I got. It seemed like I only had super masculine choices in terms of my clothing pieces so I had to adjust.

Hat- Nike
Windbreaker- Nike
Pants- Thrifted
Shoes- Nike

This day was super messy. I had to have a Nike moment just because I was in a rush and had many errands to run. I really didn’t like this look because it felt so uncreative. Looking back now I should’ve worn like a skirt with Nike socks. That would’ve been more me.

Sweatshirt- HBA

I love Hood By Air. Shayne Oliver, the creator, is so freaking innovative, creative, and thought-provoking. To be able to wear one of their pieces was an honour. I really enjoyed this look because I was much more comfortable in the masculine silhouette as this point so I worked it.

Jacket- Urban Outfitters
Sweater- OVO
Sweat Pants- OVO
Shoes- Superga
Bag- Flouis Vuitton

I definitely saved the best for last. I am a born and raised Toronto girl so I had to add a little OVO to the mix. Drake really did something with this clothing line because these pieces were super comfy. I liked this look the most because of the colour scheme, it helped everything flow effortlessly.

This challenge made me a little uncomfortable mainly because of the no heels thing. Overall the looks were extremely comfortable for the average person, but because I’m so used to being a bit uncomfortable when I dress, I felt weird being comfy. I honestly would do this challenge again because I would want my shoe game to be a lot better because in hypebeast looks the shoes are the foundation of the fit.
